The Capitec Foundation has vacancies for candidates with mathematics teaching experience and skills. The candidate would offer mentorship and guidance to a team of student teachers providing mathematics support and tutoring in schools that historically would not have had sufficient resources in this important subject.
The Math’s Mentor would observe, coach and help develop a team of mathematics students who are appointed as mathematics tutors to the Foundation’s “Math’s Tutor Programme”. The project will be launched in three major regions of the country, namely Gauteng, Kwa-Zulu Natal and the Western Cape.
The position would suit someone who is looking for part-time employment and has a sound background in Mathematics education. Organisational and communication skills are essential in order to manage tutoring content and maintain standards as well as provide guidance on curriculum priorities. The Math’s Mentor would be required to review the Math’s Tutor’s lessons on site, then critique, coach and report on these interactions. Knowledge of the CAPS curriculum is essential as well as awareness of the content.
This role would ideally suit someone who is already employed on a part-time basis or is retired as the tutorial sessions would be provided as an after-school activity for Grade 8 and above and any supervision of Tutors would be during the afternoon or occasionally on a Saturday.
The candidate would need their own transport and laptop with access to strong connectivity and liaise and communicate with their Math’s Tutor team members via the Foundation’s learning management system.
The Math’s Mentor should have experience as a GET/FET mathematics educator at high school level in the DBE or IEB. In order to qualify the candidate must have a recognised teaching qualification, with a Math’s II or pass at Math’s III with at least a few years mathematics teaching experience at high school level.
The ideal candidate would be responsible for nurturing working relationships with tutors from designated recipient institutions and providing feedback designed to improve and uplift the standard of mathematics in each particular school. They would need to be responsible for ensuring that the Capitec Foundation’s expectation of high standards is maintained by all Math’s Tutors.
There will be further broader requirements outlined for the role, on enquiry from a potential candidate. Salary would be based on the number of interventions assigned to the Math’s Mentor. Kindly send a CV with relevant additional background information to:
