Job Description

St Stithians College is a proudly South African school, embracing diversity and offering a distinctive educational experience. Founded as a Methodist Church School, our Christian spirituality is central to our identity. Our College consists of primary and secondary boys’ and girls’ schools, together with a co-educational junior primary school. We are an independent, non-profit institution located on an expansive green campus in Sandton, Johannesburg. In addition, St Stithians incorporates Kamoka Bush School in the Waterberg Mountains, and the Thandulwazi Maths & Science Academy on our Campus. Learning Support Specialist – Boys’ College


Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced individuals who believe they have the required skills and competencies to take on this position from 1 May 2021.

The requirements for this position are:

• A suitable professional qualification in inclusive education and appropriate educational experience
• Expert knowledge, a commitment to, and experience in an inclusive education environment
• Sound understanding of the strategies and latest research to assist learners with barriers to learning, and to support teachers of mixed ability classes
• Experience with or have a strong desire to work with adolescent boys
• An understanding of and a passion for boys who learn differently
• A sound and progressive understanding of the South African GETC and FET phases of the curriculum, as well as of international trends in education
• Manage learner profiles for boys experiencing difficulties to learning
• Act as a liaison person between the school and parents
• Strong administrative abilities
• The ability to work within an established team
• A commitment to on-going personal and professional development
• A knowledge of current National legislation regarding inclusive practices
• An awareness of the nature of the school and willingness to commit to its all-round ethos, co-curricular activities and pastoral approach
• Proof of SACE registration as well as a sexual offender’s clearance certificate
